Monday, May 14: Oh, it's so sad when a cruise comes to an end. We woke up docked in Piraeus.
While we waited to disembark, we took one last look at the wall-sized map that showed where we were and where we had been.
The yellow lights indicate our ports of call, and the green lights filled in the rest of our route.
We had just walked off the gangway and were heading toward the passenger terminal when Debbie yelled "Maersk!" Crewmembers were unloading supplies onto the ship from a Maersk container. It should have been Debbie in this triumphant photo, but you've probably caught on by now who takes most of our photos.
Since this Maersk Sealand container was less than 100 feet away from the Maersk container, does it count as a separate win when Debbie spotted it before Tom too? We were undecided, but at this point, Debbie was so far in the lead that we realized it didn't matter.
We boarded our bus transfer to the airport and bade farewell to our beloved Rotterdam. The Costa Romantica was in the berth next to it.
We passed the Karaiskaki soccer stadium that we last saw when we visited Athens in 2004.
We saw this giant hand holding Jill's phone when we arrived in Athens 12 days earlier, and were ready with the camera when we passed it this time.
We also snapped the IKEA store too. Why won't they build one of these in Indianapolis?
We checked in and went in search of some lunch. After 12 days of doing without, we gave in and had some hot golden fries. We think the tiny forks we received were meant to be used to eat the fries, but we didn't use them.
The view from the McDonald's was terrific ...
... but not as terrific as the view from the air. You're looking at the Naples, Italy, area with Mt. Vesuvius at the top center and the island of Capri at the bottom of the photo.
These snow-capped peaks were somewhere in Spain, as far as we could guess.

None of the sights all day were as sweet as finally seeing home after nearly two weeks.

** THE END **
