Ellis Island

On January 22, 2006, we visited Ellis Island for the first time. In a park area behind the main building is a large series of walls in a circle formation containing the names of immigrants and immigrant families on both sides of the wall.

We headed over to the part where names beginning with "L" would be. For each letter of the alphabet, there were several panels. We easily located Debbie's great-great-greatgrandparents, Trond and Christence Lindevig.

Trond and Christence emigrated from Norway in 1848 with their two-year-old daughter, Birgete. They are memorialized on the wall as "The Trond Lindevig Family." Members of my extended Lindevig family made this happen, most notably former family historian Amy Runge. This portion of the wall directly faces east with a beautiful view of the New York City skyline.
