Monday, July 28, 1980: This was our last full day on the river. We had lunch at Travertine Canyon at Mile 229.5.
I have no memory of being here, but my cryptic notes say, "Climbed up with a rope." Here's a recent photo someone posted of a rope being used to climb. Someday, I hope to visit this place again and replace this with my own photo.
Here's a view of the falls.
Here's Tony under the water in the falls ...
... and here's a bunch of us frolicking. I'm not in this photo so I either took it or simply didn't go, which is more likely. I'm not a huge fan of hiking and didn't take optional excursions. In 2006, I was more willing to go but I still skipped out on a couple of the longer hikes.
One of our fellow passengers got this great photo of Schmedly relaxing in the water. We learned decades later that Schmed had been killed in 1986 when his private plane stalled over the river. When we visited in 2017, we discovered that his gravesite in Page includes a Sanderson River Expeditions belt buckle.
Our final camp of the trip was in Spencer Canyon at Mile 246. There was a small stream up against one edge of the canyon, ...
... and a steep hill along the other side. A dry creek bed ran along this side of the canyon. There's a lot going on in this photo. My parents are chatting in the far left; Tom is talking to Jack; Kathy's doing some relaxing; and Tony, Doug, Jodi, and I are hanging out.
Jim and Ann were a lot of fun. Here's Ann giving Jim a little privacy as he cleans up a bit in the creek. Well, privacy from everyone else but her.
As is tradition on the last night of a Sanderson river trip, we were treated to some entertainment. Rewalt and Kitch put on the "Little Man" skit, with Kitch's arms serving up several shaken cans of beer to Rewalt's face.
Our good friend "Sandemo" showed up again, just like he had on our 1978 trip. That's Mike and Rewalt under those rain jackets, and that's volunteer and good sport Ann getting water poured on her as Sandemo climbed over her.
To commemorate our week-long adventure, we all received river rat pins, which you can just barely see on Ann, Karen, and Dale in this photo.

Since this was our second Sanderson trip, these were the second ones we had received, and we were proud to have earned them. Finally, Schmed led us in another sing-a-long.
