Thursday, March 29, 2012: Oh, man. Dim sum again. Breakfast heaven.

We opened the Kinder Joy egg we had bought in Hong Kong on Victoria Peak at 7-Eleven the day before (along with a couple of Claire zipper pulls for our darling Claire). Kinder Surprise eggs and Kinder Joy eggs are not allowed in the US due to child safety reasons, so we knew we'd have to enjoy it here.
We were very curious. What would we find? What indeed?
There was a plastic toy on one side, which was a spinning disc shooter, and a cup of white chocolate and hazelnut cream, with two crunchy chocolate ganache balls floating in it. Tasty but not worth getting busted by US Customs for.
We enjoyed the view from our hotel room one last time, ...
... then took our final trip on the Star Ferry.
We walked to Hong Kong Station, past this display of adorable Hello Kitty luggage, ...
... boarded the Airport Express, ...
... and returned to the Hong Kong airport.
As much as we would have loved to take home all of these boxes of Pretz (except the Shark's Fin Soup flavor -- that's so wrong), we had many more Asian countries to visit and limited suitcase space, so we had to pass. Debbie did manage to buy one souvenir: a shiny new iPhone 4 case.
Next up: a trip on Thai Airways to Bangkok!
The interior colors were bright and cheerful, ...
... the lunch was beautiful, ...
... and we got to have Thai Coca-Cola Light!
We arrived in Thailand, made it quickly through immigration, and had only one minor issue when someone else accidentally took one of our suitcases. Fortunately, Tom caught him before he left with it. In a land where Rimowa suitcases are common, finding someone with identical luggage isn't unusual. Eventually all three of us ended up with the correct identical Oriental Red Salsa Deluxe suitcases.
We had booked airport transfers with Bangkok Airport Limosine, and the pickup went just fine. (Wish we could say the same about the return trip.)
It was immediately apparent that we were in Thailand the moment we started to drive away from the airport.
Even the overpasses had an exotic Thai feel to them.
We got our first Maersk sighting on the freeway leading into the city.
This was one of many signs and portraits of the king.
It took over an hour in the Bangkok traffic to make it to the hotel, so we just enjoyed the sights, such as this giant Coke ad on the side of a building.
We checked into the Novotel Bangkok on Siam Square. We had booked a Premier Floor room again, so our check-in was done in the Premier Lounge on the first floor. There were fruit juices, soft drinks, and a hot buffet, so we came down for a bite after we settled into our room.
Here's our room on the 17th floor.
Here's a second view.
This shot of the bathroom is significant for two reasons: 1) We were supplied with bottled water each day because the tap water wasn't suitable for drinking, and 2) The opaque shower wall turned to transparent glass with a flip of a switch. It was magic.
We had no plans for the evening, so we relaxed in our room and enjoyed the sunset.

Now you can enjoy it too.
