Monday, July 1, 2002: After a 4:09 AM sunrise, we arrived
in Tallinn, Estonia at noon. |
We spent a glorious afternoon exploring the narrow streets of the
historic Old Town. We did some shopping and bought a cool pencil cup made of pottery. |
Had we taken a walking tour, we'd have a clue what the cool markings
on these stone tablets are. But, we don't! |
Quaint, quaint, quaint, everywhere you turn. |
Here's the main square of Old Town. |
It's surrounded by outdoor cafes and great shops. |
Check out the dragon heads sticking out of the top of the building! |
Estonian ice cream is quite delicious. |
Our first sighting of Harry Potter in Russian. In Finland, we bought
a copy for ourselves. |
Good to know that the Force is in Estonia, too. |
Can't pass up the opportunity to photograph Star Wars items for
our Star Wars pals back home. |
We were followed to many of our ports by Holland America's newest
ship, the Prinsendam. Even though she was brand new and featured many
suites with balconies, we told ourselves that our ship, the 18-year-old,
balcony-less Noordam, was better. We were never able to convince ourselves,
though! |
We had a lovely time in Tallinn ... |
... and came back to the ship loaded
with lots of Estonian souvenirs and clothing. |
This little Estonian seagull got the best perch on the ship while
we waited to leave port. |
Long after midnight, it was still light out. We passed a lovely
little island and lighthouse in the middle of nowhere on our way
to Russia.
