Day 5 - Cloquet |
Sunday, August 14, 2022: We watched the rain roll across the farmland outside our window while we enjoyed our breakfast.
We were on the road just before 9 AM, taking one last look at Coon Valley, ...
... and saying farewell to the land of Debbie's people.
While we drove through La Crosse, ...
... and admired their interesting bike racks, ...
... and took one final look at the Mississippi River, ...
... Cousin Paul was officiating over the last event of the 2022 Lindevig Reunion: a tour of the Coon Valley Cemetery.
We had skipped out on that last event, partially because we had been to that cemetery at the last reunion, but mostly because we were in a hurry to get to St. Paul for the next part of our trip.
What time is it?!?!? | |
It's Carbone's Pizza time! Look at that gorgeous Carbone's Special! Look!
After a delicious lunch, we headed further north, catching this U-Haul truck with Indiana-themed artwork on the side. U-Haul has art work from each state on their larger trucks, and we were going to take pictures of as many of them as we could on this trip.
Check out this giant Dala horse just south of Cloquet, Minnesota. We're not sure why it has Christmas decorations on it in August. Maybe they are getting a head start on the Christmas season.
We were in Cloquet to see a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed gas station.
Built in 1956, it is the only service station built to a Wright design in Wright's lifetime. Check out the cool windows on the second floor overlooking the pumps.
They are clearly proud of their Frank Lloyd Wright heritage.
Just after 4 PM, we checked into the Super 8 by Wyndam in Cloquet, ...
... which had a lovely view of a hill covered with prairie grasses. |
