Caribbean Cruise 2002:
Day 5 - Cozumel, Mexico

Wednesday, December 11, 2002: We followed a hard rainstorm into Cozumel, which completely cleared up by the time we disembarked. Cozumel was a busy port with many cruise ships, and we were docked alongside a larger Celebrity Cruises ship, the Summit. Our formerly private balcony suddenly became the main view of the entire dining room and hundreds of balconies. To make matters worse, their ship was clearly much nicer than ours ... and they knew it. :-)

We ventured ashore before our afternoon snorkeling tour. We both dislike pushy vendors and haggling for prices, so we chose not to shop and had a nice lunch outdoors instead at Señor Frog's overlooking the water and the cruise ships.

Yes, we like Mexican food!

After lunch, we embarked on an afternoon snorkeling tour. We waited on the pier, then boarded a boat, which spent five minutes toting us to our secluded snorkeling location ... on the other side of the pier! Yes, here we were within sight of our cruise ship.

The tour guides told us that Cozumel has the second best diving and snorkeling in the world after the Great Barrier Reef, but apparently it was located somewhere else on the island, as the snorkeling where we were was pretty average. Fortunately, we had a great time and got to see some great fish, coral, and a spotted ray.
