Day 1 - San José |

Friday, June 19: We're here! Costa Rica is country #6 for Jill. |

Our Caravan tour started the minute we exited customs where our Caravan representative was waiting for us. Within a few minutes, our transfer bus arrived and our luggage and we were ready to go. |

We had our first Maersk sighting as we were leaving the airport. |

We followed the truck for a little while on our half-hour drive into San José. |

A big brown Hershey's bus! We love this country already! |

We arrived at the Aurola Holiday Inn, our home base for the next two nights, and immediately went down to the restaurant for a buffet lunch. This was the only meal not included in our tour price. |

After lunch, we checked out the view from our seventh floor rooms. To the east ... |

... and to the west. |

At 6:00 PM, we had a welcome briefing on the 17th floor. |

A nice bartender was mixing up fruity drinks with rum or Costa Rica's national liquor, guaro. |

Tom, Jill, and Debbie toasted the start of our Costa Rican adventure. |

Our beautiful tour guide, Shirley, gave us an overview and then we all adjourned to the restaurant for dinner -- the first of 25 meals we'd be sharing as a group, 23 of which were served buffet-style. Rice and beans, mmmm.... |
