Friday, June 19: We're here! Costa Rica is country #6 for Jill.
Our Caravan tour started the minute we exited customs where our Caravan representative was waiting for us. Within a few minutes, our transfer bus arrived and our luggage and we were ready to go.
We had our first Maersk sighting as we were leaving the airport.
We followed the truck for a little while on our half-hour drive into San José.
A big brown Hershey's bus! We love this country already!
We arrived at the Aurola Holiday Inn, our home base for the next two nights, and immediately went down to the restaurant for a buffet lunch. This was the only meal not included in our tour price.
After lunch, we checked out the view from our seventh floor rooms. To the east ...
... and to the west.
At 6:00 PM, we had a welcome briefing on the 17th floor.
A nice bartender was mixing up fruity drinks with rum or Costa Rica's national liquor, guaro.
Tom, Jill, and Debbie toasted the start of our Costa Rican adventure.

Our beautiful tour guide, Shirley, gave us an overview and then we all adjourned to the restaurant for dinner -- the first of 25 meals we'd be sharing as a group, 23 of which were served buffet-style. Rice and beans, mmmm....
