Iceland and Greenland 2005: [Day 1] [Day 2] [Day 3] [Day 4]

Wednesday, June 15, 2005: On our last morning, we took a photo of the view from our third floor room at Hotel Keflavik.

The lobby of the hotel has a fascinating water feature built right into the furniture. A large rock globe floats on water just enough to spin easily when touched. This cool thing is called a Kugel fountain and we've seen several of these.

With only a half day left of our vacation, we visited the IKEA store in Reykjavik. We'd also been to one in Sweden, but had never been to one in the US. Someday, oh please oh please oh please, we'll have one in Indianapolis. (Twelve years later, we finally got one!)
As we were about to turn into the parking lot, Debbie convinced Tom to keep driving down the street without turning. The poor guy had no idea she was about to announce Maersk once she spotted this large container yard.
Seeing all of those lovely things in the IKEA store that we cannot bring home with us made us hungry, so we visited the only McDonald's we spotted in Iceland.
Here, Tom enjoyed a Big Mac while Debbie had a McFeast (which was similar to a Quarter Pounder).
All good things must come to an end, and we headed back to the airport, past the cool sculpture called Jet Nest.
Orchy smiled for one last photo in front of an Icelandair plane.

We were at the end of the line to board the plane, so Tom got to pose for one of those top-of-the-stairs, wave-at-the-crowd photos before entering the plane. Our story ends here, because the part about us getting stranded in Boston overnight on the way home isn't very interesting.

** THE END **
