New Zealand 2006:
Day 12 - At Sea

	Friday, March 24, 2006: Since this was our final day at sea, we'll give you a brief tour of our tiny cabin. Since MV Discovery is so small and old, there are no cabins with balconies, and most of the larger cabins on the two higher decks have either obstructed views from lifeboats, or unobstructed views of people walking past your room on the Promenade deck. Thus, we ended up in room 5271 on the Pacific deck, but at least it had large windows instead of portholes.
	Here was the view of our room facing the door. We had room under our beds for our suitcases, and adequate closet and drawer space for our clothes.
	Here's the bathroom. Handbars were installed in several places, which came in handy on this day.

	While we're in the cabin, we'll show you our fine collection of Cadbury candy, collected in Dunedin days before. You'd think we'd learn not to fall in love with foreign candy that is not available in our own nation, but we can't help ourselves.
	Tom was quite taken with this print of HMS Java meeting the USS Constitution during the battle of 1812. Tom dubbed it, "The Java getting its butt kicked."
	Our day at sea was marked by huge waves. Since the boat is small, it rocked considerably. This was the view from our window mid-morning.
	We both ended up with varying degrees of seasickness throughout the day (which had never happened to us before on a cruise), but fortunately, we never ended up needing one of these bags, which had been thoughtfully placed throughout the ship in public places, including the stairwells.

	Fortunately, those too sick to get out of bed could enjoy the view of the waves crashing against the front of the boat from the discomfort of their own rooms by watching the boatcam channel.
	By dinner time, the seas had calmed considerably, and we were able to enjoy a final, delicious dinner. Dessert was the traditional Baked Alaska, presented with sparklers for an amazing, but difficult-to-photograph, effect. Day 13 >
