Friday, January 29, 2021: It was just before dawn when we woke up at 7:15 AM.
Tom unhooked everything while Debbie got the interior ready to go, ...
... and we were on the road shortly before 8:00 AM.
We were finally moving slowly enough to get a picture of the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail sign.
We headed to the other side of Goose Island State Park to see the Big Tree, a huge Virginia live oak.
The Big Tree is, in fact, a very big tree. It's also very old, estimated to be over 1,000 years old.
After a couple of hours, we got some breakfast. We finally got around to using mobile curbside pickup, which makes way more sense than going inside or shearing off all the electronics on the top of our RV by plowing through the drive-through lane.
While we waited, Tom checked out the latest news from Boca Chica. Starship SN10 was being moved out of its bay, presumably to join SN9 at the launch area. We had caught a glimpse of it on Sunday when we drove by.
We enjoyed the sights of coastal Texas, including this funny-looking farm vehicle ...
... and one of many very-authentic-looking Bar-B-Q restaurants. Texans do love their barbecue, but who doesn't, really?
As we approached Houston, we got another opportunity to use our new K-TAG transponder on a Texas tollway.
There's the Houston skyline.
The fences along the overpasses had pretty decorations.
Here's Houston's Minute Maid Park, ...
... and BBVA Stadium.
For lunch, we continued our quest to eat at every food chain that starts with the word "Taco" by picking up some food at Taco Cabana.
Two large quesadillas kept us fed for several meals.
News from Boca Chica was that SN10 was definitely being moved down the road to join SN9. Exciting!
Here are some nice examples of Texas trees.
And here are some Texas trees enjoying a prescribed burn to keep their environment healthy.
The Texarkana water tower means ...
... that The Ocho is entering his eighth state: Arkansas.
Here's some Arkansas scenery.
Near Little Rock, we stopped for gas at a station where every Amazon Prime delivery truck in the region was also gassing up.
We stopped to see the Arkansas capitol building in Little Rock. It looked magnificent lit up at night.
So did this pretty bridge.
It was nearly 10:00 PM when we arrived at the Memphis KOA.
We had booked and paid for reservations online around noon, but there was no check-in information waiting for us at the registration office, so we just picked an unclaimed spot for the night.
