Day 11 - Grand Canyon |

Thursday, August 24, 1978: From Page, we headed down to the Phoenix area to visit my mother's parents for three days. It was great to see them and to get a chance to wash our river laundry. |

At some point, our new Swedish foreign exchange student, Fredrik, joined us. We had to book our river trip several years in advance, so it wasn't possible to take him with us when we decided to host an exchange student for the school year, so he joined us for the last part of the trip. |

We headed back north and drove through Sedona, stopping at the Church of the Red Rocks. |

Of course, we had to stop at the Grand Canyon to see it from the rim after seeing it from the river and the sky. Plus, this is a place every exchange student should get to see. |

Here's the view from the main viewing area at Mather Point. |

This photo was taken just east of Mather Point. It's easy to see why the Grand Canyon is my favorite place on earth.
